Gold Necklace
My sister was having a hard time with her boss. He was giving her a lot of extra work that had nothing to do with her job. On top of that he expected her to stay late without any compensation. No overtime, or even a raise. She was worried about her job so she did as she was asked. I told her to find a new job. I was wrong.
It turns out it was some kind of test. He gave her a promotion and a raise after a month of working extra and staying late. The first thing my sister did was buy a gold necklace. She told me the gold necklace is a symbol for her that hard work does pay off. That was over ten years ago. Now she is the head of her department, in the same company. She runs an entire office of her own. She still wears the same necklace to work every day. I have tried talking to her about buying a new one, but she is quite happy with the one she has. It still represents the reward for hard work to her. I cannot really argue that. She found her motivation for success in a gold necklace.
